Nintendo has increased the price of its original Switch models and select accessories in the US, with the standard Nintendo Switch now costing $339.99, up from its long-standing price of $299.99 since its 2017 release. The price adjustments also extend to other first-generation Switch consoles.
The Nintendo Switch OLED model has seen its price increase from $349.99 to $399.99, while the more compact Switch Lite now retails for $229.99, up from $199.99. Nintendo stated on Friday that the decision to raise prices was “based on market conditions,” following a similar implementation of new prices in Canada on August 1st.
This US announcement comes just one day after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing new “reciprocal” tariffs on various countries. Trump’s expanding list of tariffs now includes a 20 percent levy on products imported from Vietnam, where Nintendo has relocated the majority of its production.
In addition to console price hikes, Nintendo has also increased the cost of its Joy-Cons. The Alarmo Joy-Cons are now priced at $109.99, and the Switch 1 Joy-Cons at $89.99, both reflecting a $10 increase. Notably, prices for the newer Switch 2 console, along with physical and digital Switch and Switch 2 games, remain unchanged.
With these adjustments, the Switch OLED is now only marginally less expensive than the $449.99 Switch 2, which does not feature an OLED display. The Switch 2 has experienced significant success since its launch, selling over 6 million units despite Nintendo’s ongoing challenges in meeting demand.
