HONOR has announced the upcoming launch of its new foldable smartphone, the HONOR Magic V5, in the region. The company plans to hold a launch event for the regional debut on August 13th.
The new device is being highlighted for its design, battery life, and camera technology. The HONOR Magic V5 measures 8.8mm when folded and 4.1mm when unfolded. It features a 5820mAh silicon-carbon battery, which the company states is the largest capacity for a foldable device. The phone supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
In terms of durability, the Magic V5 has an IP58 and IP59 rating for dust and water resistance. The device also includes the new NanoCrystal Shield, which HONOR says increases drop protection by 10 times compared to standard glass. The phone’s hinge, referred to as the HONOR Super Steel Hinge, has a tensile strength of 2300MPa and is rated to withstand 500,000 folds.
The phone integrates several AI features, including the new Magic Sidebar. This feature suggests functions on a sidebar based on the user’s current activity, such as providing AI-generated subtitles for videos or summaries for articles. The device also comes with Google Gemini pre-installed. A new “Tap Tap” gesture allows users to double-tap the back of the phone to launch the AI assistant.
For photography, the HONOR Magic V5 is equipped with a 64MP Ultra Sensing Periscope Telephoto Camera. This camera uses a 1/2-inch sensor with an f/2.5 aperture. The camera offers 3x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom.
The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, an 8-core chip built on the 2nd generation 3nm process node. The HONOR Magic V5 will be available for pre-order soon in color options that include Dawn Gold, Ivory White, Reddish Brown, and Black. The company noted that the launch price will be complemented by premium gifts and after-sales services.
