Emirates Airlines has announced stricter regulations on carrying power banks and portable chargers, aligning with updated global aviation safety standards.
Under the new rules, power banks must now be placed in hand luggage only and are strictly prohibited in checked baggage. The airline emphasized that any power bank found in checked bags will be removed, potentially causing delays for passengers.
Key Guidelines for Power Banks on Emirates Flights:
- Allowed in hand luggage only (not checked bags)
- Maximum capacity: 100Wh (Watt-hours) without approval
- Higher capacity (100-160Wh): Limited to two units per passenger, with prior airline approval
- Damaged or defective power banks: Completely banned from all flights
An Emirates spokesperson stated, “These updates follow international safety protocols to minimize fire risks associated with lithium batteries in the cargo hold.”
Passengers are advised to review the latest baggage policies on the Emirates website before traveling to avoid inconvenience. Other UAE airlines, including Etihad and flydubai, have similar power bank restrictions in place.
