Long before the clock strikes midnight on December 31, preparations for Dubai’s iconic New Year’s Eve celebrations are already in full swing — and in some cases, visible nightly. Residents of the Burj Khalifa tower have been spotting lights, lasers and sound tests on the world’s tallest building as early as late November, offering a sneak preview of what’s to come.

One Downtown Dubai resident said that almost every night, lights are tested and, on some occasions, even music is run through rehearsals as part of the countdown show preparations. What was once occasional now happens “like clockwork,” she observed, adding that extra equipment and projectors added this year have heightened anticipation for the big night.

Work isn’t limited to the tower alone. Around the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain area, stages and installations are being built and tested ahead of the celebrations, with crews coordinating activity at ground level as well.

Authorities have been sharing guidelines with residents early, including guest registration details and safety instructions, to help manage crowds and movement during the festivities. On New Year’s Eve itself, access around the Downtown area will be carefully controlled, with designated viewing zones and staff deployed to ensure safety and smooth operations.

Phased road closures around key streets including Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard and parts of Sheikh Zayed Road will help regulate vehicle and pedestrian flow as tens of thousands gather to ring in 2026.

For many residents, the excitement of New Year’s Eve begins long before December 31 — it’s a months-long buildup of light shows, stage construction, and meticulous planning for one of the city’s most celebrated nights of the year.
