The African Development Bank (AfDB) is supporting a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) training initiative to accelerate progress on Africa’s continental development framework, Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want. Through its Joint Secretariat Support Office (JSSO), the Bank provided technical and financial support for the 5th Annual Training Workshop for African Union Member States. The event focused on leveraging AI for monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on Agenda 2063’s Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan (2024-2033).
Held in Lusaka, Zambia, the five-day workshop was co-organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF). Participants from AU Member States enhanced their technical skills in using AI tools to track and report on Agenda 2063 implementation, part of broader efforts to strengthen institutional capacity across the continent.
The training featured hands-on sessions with cutting-edge AI platforms including Ailyse, ChatGPT, Google AI Studio, Google Gemini, and Perplexity. These tools are being deployed to improve data analysis, policy development, and evidence-based decision making aligned with Agenda 2063 goals.
Abibu Tamu, Lead Programme Coordinator at African Development Bank Group, emphasized the Bank’s commitment during the workshop. “These tools are not only revolutionizing how data is collected, analysed, and reported, they are also enabling more targeted policy interventions and efficient resource allocation.”
The event also facilitated knowledge sharing among participants, with countries exchanging best practices in development planning and results-based reporting. The AfDB’s support underscores its ongoing commitment to digital transformation and results-focused implementation of Africa’s development agenda.
