Huawei held its flagship Huawei Middle East and Central Asia (ME & CA) Tech Carnival recently in Almaty, Kazakhstan, for the first time under the theme of ‘Leading Digital Infrastructure for New Value Together’. On the sidelines of the power-packed three-day schedule, Huawei hosted several events including the Huawei Network Summit, the Partner Summit, the Carrier Partner Forum, OptiX Club, Huawei ME&CA IT Day, and Huawei Cloud TechWave Summit, bringing together industry opinion leaders to explore the infinite possibilities of digitalization.
In his opening keynote, “Go Digital Faster, Build Digital Middle East and Central Asia Together,” David Shi, President of Huawei Enterprise Middle East & Central Asia, noted that the information revolution is driving the rapid development of the digital economy and the intelligent world is accelerating. He observed that the world was on the verge of an intelligent economy with the arrival of the fifth wave of the industrial revolution.
The digital economy takes data resources as the key element, with digital infrastructure as the “highway” in the digital economy era. With the synergy of transmission power, computing power and storage power, digital infrastructure maximizes the value of data and unleashes the digital economy’s full potential.
“Based on these requirements, Huawei cooperates with partners to provide leading digital transformation solutions for various customers in various industries. Huawei focuses on providing infrastructure such as transmission, computing, storage, and cloud, with part of the terminals and applications provided by partners,” said Shi.
Behind the remarkable improvement of these capabilities is Huawei’s investment in R&D to power sustainable development and innovation. In 2022, Huawei’s total R&D spending was USD23.2 billion, reaching another historical high. Huawei holds one of the largest patent portfolios in the world, which touched over 120,000 active patents globally at the end of 2022.
Innovations Herald the New Digital Era
The Huawei Network Summit (HNS) attracted over 480 customers and partners from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and many other countries. At the event, Huawei launched six groundbreaking innovations and held high-level industry keynotes and discussions on topics like high-quality 10 Gbps CloudCampus, Intelligent CloudWAN, and more. Huawei also launched the first IP Club member program in the Central Asia region at HNS, recruiting over 200 members onsite. Furthermore, Huawei presented awards to outstanding IP Club members in the Middle East who have contributed significantly to its growth.
At the Huawei Network Summit, Huawei and the IEEE jointly released the HPC Lossless Ethernet and AI Fabric Network Technical White Paper. The report sheds light on lossless Ethernet, a network solution that promotes high-performance computing (HPC) and AI scenarios thanks to its unrivalled advantages in network performance compatibility, cost-effectiveness and flexibility.
The report highlighted how numerous countries and regions are proactively formulating policies conducive to developing HPC and AI to promote digital transformation and how lossless Ethernet is and will keep playing a pivotal role in these efforts. For example, Saudi Arabia has formulated Saudi Vision 2030 strategy, aiming to develop HPC and AI technologies to improve global competitiveness. It also established the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) to support the R&D of HPC and AI projects. Qatar also released National Vision 2030 to propel HPC and AI technologies. The Qatar Computing Research Institute is Qatar’s foremost research institute focusing on HPC and AI with the mission to promote technological innovation. The UAE also established the National AI Strategy 2031 and appointed the world’s first Minister for AI.

AI for Industries
During the TechWave Summit, Huawei Cloud launched a range of new AI solutions, released a Pre-Trained Models White Paper and announced a new Huawei Cloud Stack (HCS) to accelerate the intelligent upgrade across governments and industries for the Middle East and Central Asia.
At the event, Frank Dai, President of Huawei Cloud Middle East & Central Asia, highlighted Huawei’s first mover-advantage in industry digitalization. “We believe AI for Industries will be the next big tipping point. Huawei Cloud offers pre-trained Pangu models with hundreds of billions of parameters to help drive industrial-scale AI development so that AI’s power can truly be unleashed across industries.”
A Shared Vision for Growth
During the Partner Summit, Huawei also showcased various products and solutions for its Partner Business. Participants discussed partner channel development and market opportunities in Central Asia as well as the 2023 Huawei ME&CA Partner Policy. High-profile partners also shared their successful case studies to impart knowledge on industry best practices. For example, Saudi-based Baud Telecom Company shared a case study on its successful partnership with Huawei in KSA and its future plans for business development.
The Carrier Partner Forum brought together industry leaders to discuss the vital role of carriers and partners in shaping a sustainable future. The forum showcased Huawei’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and collaboration as catalysts for unlocking remarkable opportunities in the face of pressing global challenges. Participants discussed the growing urgency to address environmental issues like climate change and resource scarcity.
The company invited industry leaders to share their insights and expertise, aiming to pave the way toward a sustainable future empowered by cutting-edge technology. Ali Aljariri, Senior Manager, Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA, the digital arm of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (PJSC), highlighted the significance of fostering partnerships with technology partners. Moro Hub and Huawei joined forces as pioneers in digital transformation, providing eco-friendly IT services and driving the operations of Moro Hub’s largest solar-powered green data centre in the world according to Guinness World Record. He added, “Through successful digital transformation with Huawei, Moro Hub drives collaboration for a sustainable future, fuels digital innovation, and champions green initiatives.”
Moving Towards a Sustainable Digital Future
In collaboration with GlobalData, a leading data analytics and consulting company, Huawei unveiled its Net Zero Campus Framework, a comprehensive guide for campuses to achieve net zero carbon emissions by leveraging Huawei’s expertise in campus networking and smart campus solutions. The framework helps campuses assess their current situation and plan their transition to clean energy sources while meeting the growing demand for digital services and data processing.
The Net Zero Campus Framework helps advance sustainable development, a major priority for regional governments. For example, under the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative, the UAE seeks to become a global hub and a successful model of the new green economy.
Multi-Cloud-Oriented Storage Strategy for the Yottabyte Era
Huawei also successfully held the Huawei IT Day under the theme ‘Unleash the Power of Data, Towards the Yottabyte Era’. Reinforcing its leadership in storage technology, Huawei shared its latest multi-cloud-oriented storage strategy at the Huawei IT Day.
The global ICT leader highlighted its green and secure all-flash data centre solution and demonstrated its product innovation in the commercial market by spotlighting the industry’s first entry-level storage combination with A-A Architecture – Dorado 2000 and OceanProtect X3000. At the event, Huawei also showcased the Huawei OceanStor Pacific series, elaborating on how it unleashes massive data value and embraces new data service loads in the Yottabyte era.
