Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has smashed all previous records with its 120th distinctive vehicle number plate auction, generating a staggering Dh109 million in total bids — the highest sum ever achieved at such an event.
The standout of the evening was the coveted BB12 plate, which commanded the top bid of Dh9.66 million as collectors and wealthy bidders competed fiercely for the low-digit, symbolic number. Close behind, plate AA25 fetched over Dh8 million, while BB30 and CC100 brought in Dh6.74 million and Dh4.21 million respectively.
In total, 90 distinctive plates were up for auction, spanning two-, three-, four- and five-digit combinations across a variety of letter codes. The event, held on December 27, reflects the enduring appeal of unique licence plates in the UAE as both status symbols and prized collectibles.
To participate, bidders needed a Dubai traffic file, a Dh25,000 security cheque, and to pay a non-refundable Dh120 participation fee. All sales were subject to 5 % VAT. Registration was available online or at RTA Customer Happiness Centres, with priority given to early registrants.
RTA emphasised that the auction’s transparent, neutral process ensures equal opportunity for all participants and has helped cement Dubai’s reputation as a leading global market for high-value vehicle plates.
