In a move to curb excessive vehicle noise and promote a quieter urban environment, Dubai Police has unveiled plans to widen its network of noise-monitoring radars throughout the city. The upgraded system targets a range of disturbances, from aftermarket exhaust modifications and booming sound systems to unauthorized recording gadgets and excessive honking.
This expansion forms part of the broader Steering Committee for Preserving the Civilised Appearance of Dubai’s mandate, which prioritizes cleanliness, safety, and mutual respect among residents. By embedding these radars into the force’s advanced smart traffic infrastructure, authorities aim to foster greater public tranquility and uphold Dubai’s reputation as a model of modern civility.
The radars employ cutting-edge technology to precisely gauge noise levels, pinpoint violation sources, and capture video evidence in real time. Speaking on the initiative, Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations, underscored its preventive focus, “These devices accurately measure noise levels, identify the source, and document violations with video whenever limits are exceeded.” He further emphasized the educational intent, noting, “The goal of implementing these systems is not to issue fines, but to educate drivers about the importance of adhering to civilised rules of conduct on the roads, stressing that maintaining calm is a societal responsibility that contributes to enhancing the comfort of residents and visitors, and supports the emirate’s efforts to achieve the standards of civilised and sophisticated cities.”
Offenders can expect steep repercussions: fines reaching AED 2,000, alongside 12 black points deducted from their driving licenses. For vehicles seized due to repeat or severe infractions, owners may incur release fees of up to AED 10,000. Enforcement will blend radar surveillance with routine traffic patrols, intelligent monitoring tools, and public awareness drives that spotlight the detrimental effects of noise pollution on health and road safety.
Rollout of the additional radars is underway, building on existing installations to provide comprehensive coverage across Dubai’s key districts. The announcement, made on November 16, 2025, signals a proactive step toward a more serene driving experience for all.
